Not too hot, not too cold... JUST RIGHT

The summer months mean long, sunny days and lots of outdoor activity. But when the heat rolls in, you’ll likely experience high energy bills from running your air conditioner. In order to minimize the damage, we must do all that we can for our energy-efficiency. We’ve come up with a few simple ways to effectively cut down on your AC unit’s energy consumption.
Keep Up with AC Maintenance
Program Your Thermostat
Programming your thermostat correctly can mean a better-performing system, in addition to savings on your energy bills. To set your thermostat efficiently, it's best to lower the temperature when the costs are low and raise the temperatures when the costs are high. Talk to your electric provider to see when your on-peak/off-peak times are and adjust your thermostat accordingly. You might take the most aggressive form of this strategy — the supercooling method —where you lower the temperature dramatically during the off-peak hours and effectively turn off your AC system during on-peak hours.
Open/Close Windows Efficiently
When you’re trying to keep energy costs low during the summer, it’s sometimes as easy as opening and closing your windows, but you must do it at the right time. During the evening when outdoor temperatures are at their coolest, open up all of your windows to let that cool air inside. When you wake up in the morning (or when the temperatures pass about 25 degrees Celsius), go ahead and close your windows to trap the cool air inside. Just make sure to turn off your AC system while you have the windows open!
